Victory for the Movement!

In the most sparsely attended election in history (especially in terms of Brazilian voters), the Movement for the Representation of Foreign Minorities emerged as the big winner.

Following the 6th General Election at Ebenthal on July 30th of this year, on October 4th His Majesty the King called for a 7th General Election far in advance due to the vote of no confidence from The Most Worthy Mr. Bernardo Barcellos, leader of the New Democrats in the House of Councillors, against the government of Archchancellor The Most Worthy Mr. Victor Yang (Movement), of which his party had hitherto been a member.

Allegedly, the New Democrats' (ND) move to break their alliance with the Movement for the Representation of Foreign Minority (MR) stemmed from a power struggle between the Archchancellor and Her Grace The Duchess of Guterfolg, President of the New Democrats, who at that time, with one more seat than the Movement, wanted to reclaim the Archchancellorship for her party, despite the prior agreement that formed this alliance between ND with 5 seats and MR with 4 seats under MR leadership, with the aim of preventing the formation of a National Party government.

However, the plan backfired. For those who thought the 6th General Election had a low turnout with only 30 voters, the 7th surpassed that with only 22. Even worse for the New Democrats, of the voters who abstained between the 6th and 7th elections, all were Brazilian, resulting in a turnout of voters with a non-Brazilian majority for the first time in history. Consequently, this gave a large victory to the Movement, which finished the election with 8 seats, doubling its previous number, against 3 for the New Democrats, who lost two seats. Furthermore, even before the end of the election, the decision to break the alliance with the Movement caused a small exodus of members from the New Democrats to that party, which contributed to their majority.

Thus, Victor Yang remained Archchancellor in a Movement-only government. However, despite the conflict, the New Democrats still agreed to provide confidence and support to the Movement and not join the official opposition (which holds 8 seats) formed by the National Party (5) and the Republican Party (3). In return, the ND retained three ministries, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as a compromise and self-declared gesture of good faith from Victor Yang to Bernardo Barcellos, whom he did not hold responsible for the conflict—having instead blamed the Duchess of Guterfolg.
