Micronation destiny is adrift.
Coat of arms of Roschfallen
His Royal Highness Prince Theo of Ebenthal, eldest nephew of His Majesty The King, declined the offer made by His Serene Highness The Regent of Roschfallen, Benjamin Azoulay,
to occupy the throne of that micronation, sister of Ebenthal, founded by his uncle who had been that country's monarch until nearly three years ago.
The offer, which became a diplomatic crisis, began on 8 July, when Benjamin Azoulay, appointed Regent of Roschfallen after the abdication of King Ferdinand I in accordance with the Treaty of Viden, which had made Roschfallen a Karno-Ruthenian protectorate Empire, offered the Roschfallenian Crown to Prince Theo without prior consultation with his suzerain, Emperor Oscar I of Karnia-Ruthenia, thus violating the aforementioned treaty. Prince Theo of Ebenthal.
Prince Theo's choice was simple: as the eldest nephew of the current King of Ebenthal, who had also been the first King of Roschfallen for 5 years, Theo was the natural heir in a line of succession that followed Salic Law and would have the legitimacy of being member of the House of Bruyn who founded and reigned over that country. The offer, however, not only violated the Treaty of Víden, but also created a diplomatic problem to be made not to a dynast of the House of Götzö-Thomaz-Rocha, to which the Karno-Ruthenian monarch who held suzerainty over Roschfallen belongs, but to a member of the House of Bruyn, who currently reigns over Ebenthal, one of Karnia-Ruthenia's main allies.
Faced with the crisis of interests, both King Arthur II and Emperor Oscar I sought mediation from the Secretary-General of the Conference of Santiago, King Thomas I of Quinta Velha. After 8 days of negotiations, the Heads of State signed the Resolution of Santiago del Sacramento, through which Prince Theo would be considered Crown Prince of Roschfallen and could decide between accepting the throne and assuming it, or, in case of refusal, the Mr. Lucas Ribeiro, current Archchancellor of Achsen, appointed by Emperor Oscar, would assume the Government of Roschfallen as the new Regent, replacing Benjamin who had been dismissed from office. Prince Theo, however, chose to decline the offer, presumably seeking to assume the title of Prince of Altenburg in Ebenthal, currently held by his cousin, Prince Heitor. The suzerainty over Roschfallen was passed on a personal basis to the King of Ebental, Arthur II, who, in return, agreed to pay the Karno-Ruthenian Government the sum of KM 1,000,000.00 (one million Kupfermarks of Ebenthal) in single title that the Karno-Ruthenian Government undertakes not to redeem and not to withdraw from circulation in Ebenthal for 2 (two) years. After just over a month of crisis and crisis resolution, Roschfallen remains under the Regency of Lucas Ribeiro, but its fate is uncertain. Side conversations of Ebenthali politics suggest Roschfallen's extinction, others its annexation. More will become clear in the coming months.
